Hatha Yoga Classes

"Health is wealth, peace of mind is happiness, yoga shows the way" - Swami Vishnu-Devananda

About Hatha Yoga

During this traditional Hatha yoga class you will listen and perhaps join me in chanting in Sanskrit at the beginning and end of each lesson.  You lay down whilst being guided through a meditation of the body and breath and then we begin Asana practise.  The class ends with 15 minute final relaxation and guided meditation.

Swami Vishnu-Devananda describes 12 basic postures of yoga, these postures allow free movement of the spine in all directions which act as a tonic for the spine maintaining flexibility.

With regular practice you will enjoy increased levels of strength, stamina, stillness of mind and an overall sense of well-being, all very welcome side effects to the regular practise of yoga.

I have personally watched people’s lives transform with regular yoga practise and in particular private tuition where the class is tailor made for you. Clients have watched with amazement as their body eases into strength, a lightness in step is born and the freedom of movement soon replaces any restrictions once felt. Private tuition is suitable for all abilities young and old.

Private Yoga Tuition

Would you like to practise yoga but the thought of going into a Yoga studio feels you with dread, or perhaps you would just prefer to receive a tailor made yoga class?  Well you have come to the right place!
We would begin by understanding what you wanted to achieve and look at how you are able to move and where, if any, restrictions are being held in your body.  The classes then become tailor made around you, they could be either traditional Hatha Yoga class or Yin Yoga class, depending on how you feel on the day.
With a prescriptive approach to your private tuition you could also have class that blends both Hatha and Yin or choose the style that you would prefer on the day of your class.
With 28 years of Yoga practise and teaching since 2004 you are in safe hands.  One step at a time you will learn all the basic movements and principles to each yoga posture leading to a more in-depth understanding of how Yoga feels in your body and experience the stillness of deep relaxation of guided relaxation and meditation practise.
Due to covid-19, please bring your own yoga mat, equipment and blankets.

The Peaceful Yogi Mini Retreat

Be soothed with 1:2:1 care from yogi and natural therapist, Sarah Grattan. This half day mini retreat during your stay at Witherdens Hall Spa, includes prescriptive Yoga, the healing energy of Reiki and the stillness of Meditation to calm and centre the mind.

Private Yoga Class
You can choose either Hatha to get your heart pumping a little harder, or the slower, gentler Yin Yoga, or have a more prescriptive class by mixing the two styles together.

Reiki Healing
Reiki is a natural healing energy therapy originating from Japan. Lying fully clothed and listening to music, Reiki allows you to go deeper into a meditative state where your own natural healing ability is activated and accelerated. Each session delivers a sense of connection, relaxation, balance and a feeling of being deeply nourished.

Meditation
Learn and experience the stillness of meditation. Try different techniques to practise when you’re at home and find which suits you. We will also practise some yogic breathing techniques that help to calm and centre the mind.

Your Mini Retreat is a 4 hour package – £170.00
