Traditional talk therapy offers a valuable space to explore thoughts, emotions, and past experiences. But have you ever found yourself understanding your struggles intellectually yet still feeling stuck? This is where somatic healing comes in.
Talk therapy primarily engages the mind, while somatic healing works directly with the body's stored experiences. When we experience stress or trauma, our nervous system imprints these responses deep within our muscles, breath patterns, and posture. While talking can bring insight, lasting change happens when we include the body in the healing process.
Somatic practices help release stuck energy, shift habitual patterns, and cultivate safety in the nervous system. By focusing on felt sensations—rather than just thoughts—we access a deeper layer of transformation. This is why techniques like breathwork, shaking, and movement can be so powerful in shifting long-held emotional patterns.
Neither approach is better than the other—they can complement each other beautifully. However, if you’ve been in therapy but still feel trapped in old cycles, incorporating somatic work might be the missing piece.
